SMANAGER USES WARNING! Before you start. Please understand ONE simple thing. Hondavert S300 is NOT a fake copy/counterfit/replica of Hondata S300 Board. It is own development Board with COMPATIBLITY of Hondata SManager software. Yes it’s has full compatibility with Hondata S300 V2 hardware, but she has other functionality that Hondata does not (for example — our board work as an OSTRICH emulator + Datalogger via ONE USB port. Yes, You can also use our board as a standalone OSTRICH for nonHonda ECU).
Understanding this simple thing, we come to the understanding that our board is NOT Compatible with all versions of Hondata SManager software from Hondata“s web site.
Please check your board version on personal page to understand what version of SManager you can use.

By default all Hondavert S300 boards versions works with SManager 2.2.8 with disabled internet updates. Please download if from www.hondavert.ru “Download” tab.

Download SManager 2.2.8

In Smanager go to «Options» – «Settings…»
Disable «Automatically check for new software version» and press OK.
DONE! Now You may turn ON Internet connection and connect Hondavert S300 Board.

To install the board you need some tools and parts:

  • Soldering station and soldering iron
  • OBD1 ECU and S300 USDM board
  • S300 installation kit (come with the original product)
  • DIP28 PIN Connector – 1pcs
  • 5PIN Connector – 1pcs
  • Resistor 1 kOhm – 1pcs
  • Jumper- 1pcs
  • Capacitors 0,1 mF – 2pcs
  • Latch register 74HC373 – 1pcs
Open ECU case. The ECU inside should look similar to the picture.
We need to modify eight components: C51, C52, R54, J1, J12, CN2, 74HC373, 27256
Fing places for J1 jumper and R54 resistor (they are near) on ECU board. Solder J1 jumper and R54 resistor from installation kit. Have no polarity, soldered by either side.
Find places for C51 and C52 capacitors. Solder 0,1 uF capacitors from installation pack. Have no polarity, soldered by either side.
Find places for CN2 and 74HC373. Solder 5PIN connector CN2 and 74HC373 IC from installation pack.
CHECK YOURSELF: The notch on the chip must correspond to the notch on the
board drawing
Find place for external EPROM 27256. Solder 28PIN connector or two 14PIN lines from installation pack.
Find jumper J12. Desolder or cut J12 jumper.
Make a hole in ECU case for USB Connector. Install S300 board.

To install the board you need some tools and parts:

  • Latch register SMD 74HC373 – 1pcs
Open ECU case. The ECU inside should look similar to the picture.
We need to modify seven components: C49, C50, J1, J4, CN2, 74HC373, 27256
Find places for CN2, 27256 and 74HC373. Solder 5PIN connector to CN2, 28 PIN socket or 2×14 pin lines to 27256 and 74HC373 IC from installation pack.
Solder C49, C50 capacitors form installation pack.
Desolder jumper J4 nd solder it to jumper J1

First, a little theory.

Hondavert S300 – this is the most advanced emulator for OBD1, the only one in the world that supports two protocols for working with ECU. Hondata S300 protocol and OSTRICH 2.0 protocol (for boards version 1.6) / OSTRICH 1.0 (for boards version 1.5 and below)

Hondata provides bundled drivers for working with SManager, but they do not develop any compatibility for working with other programs like CROME.

As a result we have two types of drivers for Hondavert S300:

1. Driver «SManager» – works only with SManager. Installed automatically when you installing SManager.

2. Driver «HondaVert» – extended driver that works with both protocols S300 and OSTRICH.

Drivers are NOT COMPATIBLE with each other.

If you want to work only with SManager, as most users do, because this is the most functional, stable and user friendly program, then just install SManager according to our instructions and rely on the installation wizard, it will do everything for you. You do not need to read anymore. Go tune!

If you want to use OSTRICH and S300, then download the «HondaVert» driver and install it.

Switch S300 to CROME mode
S300 Board must be located in the ECU


Disconnect power from the ECU. Disconnect USB cable from S300. Solder jumper SJ4 instead of SJ3 as shown on the picture (you can temporarily remove the board from ECU at this stage for convenience)

Download the RTPMode utility and unpack it to C:\RTPMode.
Close SManager and CROME, if they are running. Supply power to the ECU or turn ignition ON, if the ECU is installed on the vehicle.
Connect S300 board to the computer via USB. Waiting for 10 seconds to activate the drivers!
Run C:\RTPMode\SetCROME.bat

CAREFULLY check that the board is determined as on the picture. If not, you have a problem with the USB cable or jumpers soldered incorrectly!

Switch S300 to SManager mode
S300 Board must be located in the ECU

Attention! SManager mode is enabled by default when a new board is purchased. These manipulations are necessary only if you early switched S300 board to CROME mode (SJ4 jumper is soldered)


Disconnect power from the ECU. Disconnect USB cable from S300. Solder jumper SJ3 instead of SJ4 as shown on the picture (you can temporarily remove the board from ECU at this stage for convenience)

Download SManager 2.2.8

Run SManager 2.2.8 installation
On «Check Version» Step DO NOT Press the «Check» button
Process all other installation process as usual. Finish the installation and run Smanager
In Smanager go to «Options» – «Settings…»
Disable «Automatically check for new software version» and press OK

Other softwares for OSTRICH do not need any tricks. Install it as usually from any source.

This instruction was released thanks to the guy with nickname Buka55ru, who many years has been successfully using HondaVert for tuning his car with automatic transmission

ECU Hardware and Wiring
To work, we need the following OBD1 ECU output:
A17 IAB — Secondary Intake Runner / A/T Lock-Up Solenoid
Manual ECU. This type of ECU needs to be modified by adding the power output A17 from the ECU, to run automatic valve control. Read below.
Automatic ECU. This type of ECU already has everything you need from the factory, does not require any modification.

For ECU wiring connect both A/T Lock-Up Solenoids (OBD1 pin A17 and A19) to pin A17, as shown in the diagram above.

A17 IAB Modification (for Manual ECU)

For this modification we need:
IC16 5050S High Side Swith
R68 820 Ohm Resistor
D13 4001 Diode
C78, C79, C91 22 pF Capacitors (sometimes soldered from the factory)
Solder IC16, Connect the Q34 right hole to left control pin of 5050S.

SManager ECU calibration

To run with automatic transmission, we will use a great feature available in SManager – programmable events.

Go to the Nitrous/AUX 1 event and configure the following parameters:
Function —> Nitrous control
Input tab —> Always on
Output tab —> A17 IAB (Secondary Intake Runner)

Conditions tab
-Engine speed —> 1500-7200 rpm
switching on early so that there is a margin to failure when locking
-Engine load —> 300-950 mbar
950 is 8.5 column, if less then flying off when cruising on 100 kmh
-Throttle —> 1%
-Vehicle speed —> 70-220 kph
-Air Temperature —> -30 C
-Water Temp —> -37 – 130 C

Upload calibration to ECU and Go Driving 😉


Hondavert S300 version 1.6 2020 does not require unlocking and is compatible with all existing versions of SManager. The instructions below are valid for older boards versions 1.4 – 1.5 2018 with serial numbers “2260”.
Hondavert S300 versions 1.1 – 1.3 are no longer supported.

How to determine that the board is locked by SManager
S300 Board must be located in the ECU

Disconnect USB cable if it is connected. Open the ECU cover. Find three LEDs (POWER, USB, ERROR) near USB Connector. Supply power to the ECU or turn ignition ON, if the ECU is installed on the vehicle

The POWER LED lights up, and ERROR LED begin to blink three error codes [2, 10, 3]

These three error codes indicate that the board is locked by uncompatible version of SManager.

IMPORTANT! The board can be locked only in ONE WAY – by installing uncompatible version of SManager and uploading the calibration file to ECU with it. There are no other mystical ways to lock the board.

Recovery Hondavert S300 After Locking by SManager
S300 Board must be removed from the ECU

Remove S300 board from the ECU.
Solder the jumpers SJ3, SJ4 as shown on the picture above
Connect the board to the computer via USB. POWER and USB LEDs are turn ON. Wait 10 seconds after connection to activate USB drivers!

Install and run SManager 2.2.8. This SManager 2.2.8 is compatible with all board revisions 1.4 – 1.6 2020.

Run Erase ECU from menu Online
Waiting for the end of the erasing procedure, about 4-5 minutes. At the end, a window will appear informing about the successful completion of the procedure. Click OK.
Done! Return jumpers to their original state. On picture shown SManaer mode

Re Upload your calibration with CORRECT version of SManager 2.2.8 and have a fun!
